Lead-free materials take centerstage at Intercut 2020.
Attendees of Intercut held in Cluses (Haute-Savoie, France), will focus on a hot button issue at a conference entitled “Machinability solutions for lead free materials” that will take place on 30 January 2020 at 10 a.m.
New developments and trends in materials engineering, particularly those related to new lead-free material grades, are core concerns of machining specialists. One primary expectation relates to controlling the machinability of lead-free materials; driven by the latest changes to the REACH and ROHS directives, the lead content of materials with improved machinability will have to be lowered to 0% in the upcoming years. This complete phase-out of lead will result in machining difficulties, more frequent tool changes and consequently reduced productivity. The conference held on 30 January will therefore take stock of the situation given the strategic issues at stake, particularly the work initiated by Cetim’s “series machining” committee.
