Joining forces to influence standardisation
The results of professional studies dedicated to transmission shafts in lifting equipment led to the completion of the draft standard EN 13001-3-8 “Cranes - General Design - Limit States - Shafts”. This is a prime example of the value of collective work in this field.
How can you contribute to the development of a standard so that it is in line with your needs upon publication? Through collective work! A prime example of this is the draft standard EN 13001-3-8 “Cranes - General Design - Limit States - Shafts” which recently passed the CEN’s (European Committee for Standardisation) investigation with flying colours. This draft standard which sets out the conditions, instructions and general methods making it possible, via the design and theoretical verification, to avoid the mechanical risks on cranes, stems from of a collective approach. As a matter of fact, its development, which was initiated in 2017, is based on the results of many studies undertaken at the request of Cetim’s “Handling, lifting and storage” professional commission for over 15 years. Standard EN 13001-3-8 is scheduled to be published in early 2020.
An international presence
Cetim plays a prominent role in the French standardisation work for the mechanical engineering sector providing over 50% of the budget for the Union de normalisation de la mécanique(UNM - French mechanical engineering standardisation office) and constant technological support with over 210 seats held by its experts in national and international commissions.

Mechatronics is for products and equipments as well. It deals with an integrated method to design, validate and manufacture functions which performances are guaranteed by an optimal assembly of various components (mechanical, electrical, electronical and data processing ones).
In the field of control and measurement, improvements are mainly found in the fields of production system management and real-time adjustment in order to guarantee product quality. There is also the development of via-Internet management of production machines, so that one machine can be shared by various industrials.
This technological focus includes projects relating to : mechatronical design, process and product automation and monitoring, measurement control, maintenance and monitoring of operating machines.
