Integration of additive manufacturing: Cetim assists you!
Cetim continues to provide its support to companies and is fully attuned to their needs, providing answers to questions such as how to integrate additive manufacturing, for what types of parts, how to be certain of the durability, how to avoid making mistakes and losing one’s investment, among others. Cetim also supports the integration of this industry of the future technology within a context specific to the companies.
As a second component of the approach to meet additive manufacturing implementation needs, individualised support is now possible across the entire value chain. Cetim, its associated centres including Cetim-Certec and Cetim Maroc, are now offering integration support to help companies secure their decision making and investment process and complement the range of services dedicated to characterization.
Overall approach
This support is based on three pillars and is suited to sectors (medical, aerospace, defence, energy, etc.) and to specific needs, whether these needs stem from small, medium, intermediate sized enterprises or contracting authorities. Accordingly, Cetim’s experts use technological, project and financial engineering to guarantee the successful integration of the new process. Technological engineering is based on the provision of expertise and the technological resources required for the successful completion of the project.
The second pillar, project engineering offers complete monitoring from the feasibility study to industrial production of the solution, covering opportunity, proof of concept, industrial production and production monitoring.
Lastly, financial engineering helps to provide support through regional aids schemes, on the shared platforms or for an individual initiative (research tax credit). This support has the advantage of being made-to-measure depending on the company’s level of maturity. Support may be offered from the technical-economic feasibility study to assistance with certification in addition to the selection of the material-process pair, designed engineering and software tools, proofs of concept, post-treatment and inspections, as well as qualification and characterization. This requires a genuine strategy for integrating additive manufacturing into the company’s know-how. Accordingly, Cetim assists the company in establishing the business model, provides assistance with project management, the HSE approach, integration into the workshop and skills improvement.
A key role in major initiatives
Ultimately, all of this is made possible through the key role played in major additive manufacturing development initiatives and the longstanding desire of Cetim and its partners to implement the technology. It is further achieved through Cetim’s involvement in the Additive Factory Hub (AFH) in Saclay for the creation of a world-renowned R&D tool, its participation in the national initiative created within the Industry of the Future Alliance, of which it is a member, the coordination of the group of Carnot institutes for the manufacturing section, the action conducted in European standardization bodies, the establishment of support programs for SMEs in the regions, inter alia shared facility production units, the production equipment provided for various applications and the exceptional metallurgical characterization capabilities.
Demonstration by example
Many projects have already started emerging. For example, the support provided to Wright - formerly Tornier - for the design and qualification of an orthopaedic implant. Indeed, the Montbonnot site is the only ISO 13485-certified site in the Wright group for production via an additive manufacturing process. The integration examples which span the aerospace, tooling, energy, capital goods, textile and medical sectors demonstrate the reality of this opportunity.

Mechatronics is for products and equipments as well. It deals with an integrated method to design, validate and manufacture functions which performances are guaranteed by an optimal assembly of various components (mechanical, electrical, electronical and data processing ones).
In the field of control and measurement, improvements are mainly found in the fields of production system management and real-time adjustment in order to guarantee product quality. There is also the development of via-Internet management of production machines, so that one machine can be shared by various industrials.
This technological focus includes projects relating to : mechatronical design, process and product automation and monitoring, measurement control, maintenance and monitoring of operating machines.
