Hot-work tool steels
This report (9Q366) is a summary of a major study performed on tool steels, hot-work tool steels in particular, whose use has become widespread in industry. With a view to the wide circulation of the results of this study, Cetim aimed to produce a more accessible document in the form of a practical guide for tool steel users and practitioners. Following a summary of the fundamental elements used by metallurgists, the main section of this guide examines how to optimise the choice of steel based on its heat treatment. Indeed, due to their nature and properties, steels react differently to loading, and it is therefore important to understand the foundations of metallurgy, the 2019 – Code AP 070577 properties of the various materials and the appropriate treatments in order to make the best optimisation choices.
