Innovation: the asset of French standards

Afnor has published several French standards on innovation management to serve as guides to better pave the way for future accomplishments. These standards constitute some of the milestones and benchmarks in the strategy adopted by innovative companies.

Industrial innovation is a core element of all corporate strategies and the cornerstone of economic innovation. It is both the product of human creativity and the implementation of a managerial process that transforms a bright idea into a product or an innovative service.

Tools and standards have been defined in order to guarantee the effectiveness of this innovation management process. They are backed up by years of experience and have been designed to give impetus to entrepreneurial momentum around innovation and to complete the key steps to project success.

The Horizon 2020 programme has been an avenue through which the European Commission has maintained close involvement in these processes and the subsidies granted have contributed to reinforcing the innovative capacity of the companies and businesses. To this end, it sets up a network of innovation experts with the aim of identifying innovative companies, advising them in their innovation approaches and facilitating inter-company cooperation. A call for projects is underway to structure this network and expedite dissemination of innovation reference methods.

In France, specific guides have been drawn up by the French innovation experts brought together within Afnor. Examples of these are notably the innovation management implementation guide (FD X50-271), the open innovation approach implementation guide (FD X50-272), integration of sustainable development in innovation management (FD X50-273), innovation management – management of intellectual property (FD X50-146), innovation management – management of strategic intelligence (FD X50-052).

These guides are instruments that help innovative companies structure their approach, ensure long-term viability and guarantee their success.

Cetim is especially involved in the standardisation work and accordingly has also developed Cetinnov, a specific innovative design method. This method will be presented during the technical day dedicated to innovation to be held on 24 June at the Cetim Senlis facility.
