SKF optimises the service life of cutting fluids
In order to prevent the deterioration of its machining oils and optimise operating costs, SKF carried out an audit and trained its operators in proper monitoring of the baths. This process resulted in a successful technical and methodological transfer!
How to reduce the impact of cutting fluids on production costs? This is the issue which SKF management had to solve. The company was faced with the recurrent problem of durability of its cutting fluids and relied on Cetim to find sustainable solutions. The proposed action plan was simple and involved low operating costs and a quick return on investment. It allowed SKF to control its baths and to eliminate frequent critical situations requiring immediate bath replacement.
"Since then, bacterial attacks have markedly decreased and we are no longer confronted with critical situations where the baths may be lost. The results are therefore quite satisfactory given the cost of replacing a bath that can be as much as 10,000 euros, including the cost of elimination" explains Claire Deschastres-Gurung, the site’s HSE coordinator.
The action plan was transmitted to the various SKF entities and the group has confirmed the positive results achieved by Artema member businesses in the sector.
