The PSA Group is using tribology for its vehicles
The French manufacturer is performing an increasing number of tests and expert analyses in order to decrease the energy consumption and improve the comfort of its new models.
Eliminating energy waste while optimising the tribological performance of vehicles is a priority for the PSA Group. Within the company, a specialised department analyses all types of friction specific to the automobile mechanical industry. But this expertise does not prevent it from maintaining strong relationships with other research laboratories, including Cetim, which is able to establish methods and build tools which make it possible to accurately reproduce the tribological stresses to which parts and components are subjected, in order to optimise their behaviour. Therefore, the centre performs many tribological studies on behalf of the group.
A multi-sector approach
“We have been working with the tribology experts at Cetim for many years, explained Moussa Diaby, leas tribology expert at PSA. The centre has a broader perspective of the friction problems given its expertise which largely exceeds that of the automotive sector. In fact, Cetim performs many tests in the automotive sector as well as in the aeronautics, aerospace, heat treatment and surface treatment sectors. This multi-sector approach and the associated skills, inter alia in new materials, represent a major asset for the quality of our work and the excellence of our vehicles.” In addition to specific studies, Cetim also serves as a service centre to ease the workload of the in-house teams during peak periods.
