Pumps for petrochemistry: 3P replaces metal with polymers
The 3P group, Produits Plastiques Performants, designs and manufactures technical non-metallic parts for pumps, compressors and valves. Amongst its latest innovation is the introduction of polymers for wear rings on pumps designed for petrochemistry.
Given that these wear rings may come in contact with fluids transmitting abrasive particles, the resistance of the products subject to abrasion needs to be accurately quantified. To this end, 3P called on Cetim’s expertise and test resources. The Centre inter alia adapted its test bench for metal materials in order to characterise the 3P polymers. At the end of the tests: “we were able to improve our support, obtain greater reliability and prove it by leveraging on the expertise of Cetim which carries out standardised slurry abrasion tests (Miller Test: ASTM G-75): a bed of sand of 100 µm between two materials making up the pump”, outlined Séverine Pujol, 3P project manager in Valencia, Spain.
