Carats guides luxury SMEs and intermediate-sized industries towards innovation

France is a flagship in terms of fashion and luxury. However, whereas our nation’s most important companies are prepared to meet the challenges of this sector (sustainable development, creation and engineering, trademark identity, luxury in the future, risks and safety, etc.), many SMEs can face difficulties when starting a differentiation approach through innovation, due to poor knowledge of the available tools and technologies. In order to assist them, such institutes as Carnot M.I.N.E.S, Ingénierie@Lyon and Mica have built a structure around the “Carnot appui technique et scientifique” (Carats) scheme (Carnot technical and scientific support). The purpose of this action conducted by “Carnot Filières” and supported by the “Investissements d’avenir” (Investments for the Future) programme (the maximum subsidy amounts to 8.1 million Euro over six years): is to provide SMEs and intermediate-sized industries with an easily-accessible and single service bringing them towards a large network of scientific skills and 17 innovative and internationally-open technological platforms. Carats thus includes 4,000 researchers, engineers and technicians specialising in research and technological transfer, as well as scientific experts. It is associated with an economic and technological watch scheme and is intended to assist companies in developing their innovation strategy and to direct them towards the available services. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, they can now contact the Carnot M.I.N.E.S institute which steers the programme.
