Tesseract inaugurates seismic tests
With "Tesseract", a seismic test platform inaugurated on 8 November 2016 in Bordeaux (France), FCBA and Cetim offer equipment manufacturers (particularly nuclear equipment manufacturers), unprecedented resources combining simulation and seismic tests.
In order to meet increased stability requirements for nuclear plant equipment in seismic conditions further to the Fukushima disaster, the FCBA (Forêt Cellulose, Bois-construction Ameublement - Forest, Cellulose, Wood and Construction) Institute and Cetim are once again combining their expert's skills.
As unity is strength, thanks to the collaboration between those two technical centres (FCBA and Cetim), the Aquitaine region will be endowed with one of the few seismic testing facilities in France. It is the cornerstone of ambitious technological cooperation in response to the challenges faced by the industry of the future.
This new testing facility, jointly financed by both technical industrial centres, will be inaugurated on Tuesday 8 November 2016 at FCBA, in Bordeaux (France), in the presence of Alain Rousset - Chairman of the Aquitaine Regional Council, Georges-Henri Florentin - FCBA General Manager, and Philippe Choderlos de Laclos - Cetim's General Manager.
Improving behaviour reliability during earthquakes
The existing seismic testing platform at FCBA (Bordeaux, France) was adapted in order to meet the requirements of new market segments and new specific technical aspects of which Cetim possesses in-depth knowledge. This platform called "Tesseract", includes a bi-axial shake table designed to perform stress accelerations up to 50 m/s 2. This table, associated to a multi-channel and multi-physical acquisition system, can withstand assemblies weighing up to 2 tons.
Therefore, in response to the challenges faced by the industry of the future, FCBA and Cetim will offer industrial manufacturers a set of resources combining simulation and seismic tests so that they can characterise, qualify and improve the reliability of structures & equipment's earthquake behaviour and validate their calculation memos and their studies.
Thanks to the platform, FCBA can open up to new market segments, in such fields as wood and concrete, thereby requiring a bi-axial shake table (the previous one was a single-axis table). For Cetim, it is an efficient resource which makes it possible to propose solutions to metallic structure and equipment manufacturers, especially in the nuclear energy sector.
