Onera and Cetim sign an agreement for the development of materials
The Paris air show witnessed the signing of a strategic agreement in the field of materials. Onera and Cetim have decided to strengthen their cooperation in order to develop a joint and innovative technological offering.
Building on more than a decade of cooperation within the Carnot institute network, Onera and Cetim officialised their partnership through a strategic agreement to the benefit of the materials sector. “Up until now, both centres pursued their own paths. Our association started as soon as Onera and Cetim were recognised as Carnot institutes. Our involvement within the network for the development of partner research was the deciding factor”, explained Philippe Choderlos de Laclos, general manager of Cetim.
Expanding the product offering in the materials sector
Therefore, both organisations have decided to strengthen their cooperation. The agreement was signed on Tuesday 16 June 2015 at the Paris air show by Philippe Choderlos de Laclos, general manager of Cetim and Bruno Sainjon, CEO of Onera. Its four main goals are the pooling of high added value human and technical resources, an increase in the value of their technological offering to the benefit of industrial manufacturers; a growth in the volume of technological transfers to users and the strengthening of their European leadership in the field of composite materials, hybrid structures and additive manufacturing processes (3D printing).
This is a strategic partnership against the backdrop of a France that is focusing on re-energising its industrial sector and strong stakes related to the materials sector, that is geared towards “developing a joint innovative and efficient technological offering”, as stated by the representatives of both Carnot institutes.
Furthermore, Onera and Cetim intend to leverage on their presence and their respective and complementary fields of expertise. Both organisations are major players in the field of industrial partnership research. Onera is the centre of aerospace research and coordinates the new Carnot aerospace consortium (Aircar) on behalf of the Government. Cetim, for its part, represents the French mechanical expertise centre in the running for conducting the future Carnot consortium “Mechanical industries and processes” (IMP).
Composites, conducting wire
The two now partner organisations started their cooperation in 2007. The association, conducted within the Carnot network, took on the “form” of world first, starting with the development in 2012 of an A-arm made from thermoplastic composite with PSA Peugeot Citroën. Moreover, Zodiac Aerospace and Cnes are two future beneficiaries of the results of their joint works.
