ISO dimensioning –Geometrical Product Specification (GPS) handbook released

The latest Geometrical Product Specification (GPS) Handbook has been released. Download it from Cetim’s Mécathèque.

The Geometrical Product Specification (GPS) is a means of communication used by designers, production engineers, quality specialists, inspectors and metrologists to exchange unambiguous information on the permissible geometries of parts made in accordance with specifications… given on drawings. The very specific syntax and semantics of the associated graphic and symbolic “language” used are defined in GPS standards.

This new fascicule falls within the scope of this GPS approach. It was designed as a practical tool summarising the GPS standards related to tolerancing and is aimed at delivering the latest changes made to the main elements contained in the basic dimensioning and tolerancing standards since the release of the first Handbook.

The French, European and International standards in this field are written and followed up by French standardisation commissions: UNM 08 - Specification (chaired by Snecma), UNM 09 - Dimensional and geometric check (chaired by Cetim) and UNM 10 - Surface textures (chaired by PSA Peugeot Citroën). These commissions establish the French positions in international work (ISO/TC213) and European work (CEN/TC 290 with UNM secretary).

As always, taking part in standardisation work is a means of anticipating and influencing the changes made to the standards instead of being subjected to them.

This Handbook was written by Cetim in collaboration with the UNM (the French standardisation office for the mechanical engineering and rubber industries) with support from the FIM (the French federation of mechanical engineering industries), Cetim‑Ctdec, Cetim‑Certec, Cetim-Cermat, the LRCCP (the rubber and plastics research and testing laboratory), Artema and Symop.

Download the Handbook at cetim.fr, “Mécathèque” section (free download for subscribers).

The Handbook is also available in paper version for non-subscribers, at the same address.
