Cetim obtains a new JEC Award
The Centre's developments in the field of composites were rewarded at the JEC Americas in Atlanta, in the "Testing Equipment" category.
Cetim earns a series of JEC Awards! One year after the success of the QSP high-speed composite line, the fast pealing machine, invented by the Centre, has received a JEC Award. This award was in the "Testing Equipment" category.
This new equipment, combined with the SPIDE TP laser filament winding machine, can be used to optimise process development parameters in real time. A specimen - a ring on the machine - can be produced in just five minutes using the thermoplastic composite strip, while pealing tests are completed in the same period. Variation in peeling energy, measured precisely by this machine, relates directly to the quality of the strip and process parameters. The technician can then immediately adjust machine settings without need to wait for test results from a laboratory. This is a key asset for the deployment of this technology and testing costs have been divided by 10!
Ready for sale
Cetim engineers took two years to transform the idea into industrial equipment. The next stage is the sale. The laser filament winding machine combined with the on-line testing machine could appeal to industrial stakeholders in the transport, energy, paper and aeronautical sectors. A licensing agreement was signed in 2015 with LF Technologies, a manufacturer of special machines.
