Additive Factory Hub: an open initiative for the development of the industry by Additive Manufacturing

Pooling expertise and high-performance resources to increase the impact of additive manufacturing in the industry are some of the ambitious goals set by the founding partners of the Additive Factory Hub platform. This open initiative launched by Safran, CEA, Cetim, Arts et Métiers, SystemX and Université Paris-Saclay has already drawn the attention of several industrial manufacturers, including PSA, Air Liquide, Prodways, Addup and Beam.

The Additive Factory Hub platform, located in Paris-Saclay, will represent an international showcase of the know-how of the Paris region for its ecosystem in coordination with the broad-scale national initiatives and projects spearheaded in particular by the Technological Research Institutes, the Carnot Manufacturing sector and the Rafam* network.

Based on the shared needs and interests of the industrial manufacturers and by leveraging on a research ecosystem that is world-renowned (Université Paris-Saclay) in the areas of digital technology, physics and materials, amongst the top 8 of the innovative clusters (MIT Technology Review, 2013), Additive Factory Hub will create and implement medium and long-term R&D programmes aimed at:

- reaching essential scientific and technological milestones for the competitiveness of industrial partners with scientific and academic influence,

- developing multi-scale digital tools and systemic optimisation tools,

- possessing more competitive processes and materials: sustainability of materials, multi-material application, Internet of Things establishment.

Additive Factory Hub will be a forum for dissemination, training and technological transfer to SMEs, where they will be able to find a panel of experts and resources to support them in their familiarisation with the technology.

The work and goals stem from the roadmap published by the Industry of the Future Alliance and will also foster the required results for the dissemination of technology in the national industrial fabric by contributing in particular to the structuring and accessibility of data (database).

*: Cetim is also a member of the Rafam network (Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes Metallic Additive Manufacturing), and has helped in the regional structuring of additive manufacturing in Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes.
