Resistance to loosening – Calculation by the finite element method

The aim of this synthesis is to assess and understand a loosening test through a simulation based on a numerical model. The first part consists of a feasibility study on a particular case of loosening and then validation of the model on different assembly cases by comparison with experimental results. The sensitivities with regard to the support displacement amplitude, the friction coefficient and the pre-tightening force are also studied. Lastly, the results with different nut configurations are reviewed.

As the numerical model cannot perform precise predictive calculations, the limitations of this experimental model are also identified, in particular the divergences between the test results and the calculations.
