Inclined punching: monitoring of wear and blanking quality

A test campaign was undertaken in light of the need expressed by Cetim’s “Sheet metal forming” Profession to characterise the influence of punch angle inclination on blanking operation, with consideration for tool wear and part quality .

These tests were carried out on a material (DP600 sheet metal) and helped to check the quality of the blanked edge and the damage of the tools for various angle inclinations (10°, 15° and 25°). Good consistency (of the sheet metal cutting quality and the punch wear) was observed for the 10 and 15° angles, however quick deterioration occurs for the 25° angle.
