One of the main characteristics for a radial lip seal working behaviour is the radial force exerted by the seal on the rotary shaft. This is a complex combination of the force exerted by the rubber seal lip and the force supplied by the metallic garter spring. The material mechanical characteristics show a non-linear evolution with the temperature. Consequently the seal radial force and then the seal efficiency could also change greatly depending on the temperature working range.
