The coatings prepared via sol–gel route show interesting properties in the field of the mechanics and more generally towards the anti-corrosive protection of metal substrates. The sol–gel process is an innovating technology due to its properties of surface protection correlated to the feasibility of efficient protection via a new eco-friendly route consisting of the hydrolysis and condensation of metal alkoxides to obtain metaloxane chains. These chains generate sols that are then used to coat numerous metal substrates to protect them against corrosion.
