Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is one of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies that uses a laser or an electron beam to selectively melt the necessary section of a powder. The main advantages of the SLM over conventional processes concern the elimination of moulds and a possibility to improve the design of different mechanical parts and by consequence to improve (sometimes to create) mechanical, thermo-physical, metallurgical and other properties. Besides, the list of the materials applied for the SLM is still limited. Some defects of metal fabrication like residual porosity, high surface roughness as well as the anisotropy of the microstructure and properties, creation of new undesirable crystalline structures are sometimes the main reasons that do not allow a further industrial implementation of the technology.
