Composite materials are increasingly used for the design of structural elements. To achieve accurate predictions of the dynamic and vibroacoustic behavior of structures containing such materials, a good knowledge of their stiffness and damping properties is of great importance. Experimental modal analysis is a well established technique to obtain such properties from the measurement of natural frequencies and damping ratios on a test structure. However, this technique has several limitations.
