Continuous fibre reinforced composites have an increasing demand in the automotive industry because of their potential to save weight without reduced performance. Thermoplastic composites offer good mechanical and chemical performance, recyclability, low volatile organic compound emission, feasibility of being joined by fusion bonding or overmoulding. Especially their high ductility is very important in the automotive where damages have to be considered. However, relatively high viscosity poses manufacturing challenges that has traditionally led to processes as thermoforming, fibre/tape placement and RTM (Resin Transfer Moolding) of reactive thermoplastics that requires special storing and handling of the hazardous monomers, process control and special equipment.
