In steel constructions (cranes, bridges, cars, agricultural or mining machinery ...), welding is, by far, the mostly used assembling technique. Because of the high notch stress concentration induced by weld joints, however, fatigue life of welded structures can be low. In order to improve the fatigue properties of welded components, hammer peening can be performed.
