Robust Active Control of The Milling Process Vibrations in a fixed reference frame

Créé le : 09/05/2019

The milling process is the most used machining operation for finishing complex parts. The vibrations often impact the results, sometimes generating very important cost because of the lack of quality for high value parts. The chatter phenomenon is associated with unstable vibration in machining and can lead to accelerated wear and eventually failure of both the cutting tool and the machine tool. It is often the main factor that limits productivity, accuracy and surface finish of machined parts. Consequently, industrial requirements in terms both of productivity and accuracy need the development of innovative solutions. The active control is one of the most promising ways. This article will deal with the active control of vibrations produced by a milling operation in a fixed reference frame, following three control strategies: the ∞ compensator, the one and the μsynthesis compensator. The work aims to validate a concept of industrial system that can implement active control strategies machining with rotating tools (milling) using piezoelectric actuators. Because of the nonlinearities of the milling model, neglected dynamics, noise measurements or even actuation noise, the robustness analysis of the compensators is also studied following two strategies; the neglected dynamics and the parametric uncertainties. Actually, robustness is an essential criterion because of the uncertainties which are added to the system.
