VibSEA - Aircraft engine vibration under close monitoring
3, 2, 1, go!VibSEA, a project selected by the European Commission as part of the Clean Sky 2 programme, was cleared for take-off with the signature of the consortium agreement by and between Safran Aircraft Engines (the project sponsor), Cetim (the project manager) and ESI Group(a specialist in simulation solutions). VibSEA, 82% of which is funded by the European Union, is a project aimed at predicting the high-frequency vibration of aircraft engines by designing a modelling methodology based on Statistical Energy analysis (SEA) and by means of experimental fine-tuning with tests performed on a full-scale portion of an engine casing. This study requires, inter alia, the development of a specific test bench equipped with three laser vibrometers, a vibrator and an image processing system. The project will take place over a period of three years.
With VibSEA, Cetim confirms its involvement in the Clean Sky 2 European programme, intended to develop a complete set of required technologies for a “clean, innovative and competitive aviation system”. After Palace, a project focusing on the development of a new pump architecture for embedded compressors, Cetim also embarked on the Sherlocproject, jointly conducted with the Imperial College of London, Compose Tools and PEI, aimed at manufacturing composite windows on an industrial scale. Other projects are sure to follow in 2019.
This project has received funding from the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 831893. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Clean Sky 2 JU members other than the Union.
