Carnauto is speeding up
As the automobile sector is being destabilised by new models and stakeholders, it is essential to help very small, small, medium and intermediate-sized companies in this trade to increase their added value, especially by innovation. Actually, it is the purpose of the sector‑focused action conducted by Carnauto, a group of several Carnot institutes to contact those companies, particularly those which hardly or do not use public research, and provide them with a tailored response that meets their development needs. The action focuses on three market segments: engines, materials & architectures and information technology (IT) applied to mobility. Its ambition is to double the volume of partner research with intermediate-sized companies, SMEs and very small companies in this field.
Carnauto is supported by nine Carnot institutes (ARTS, CEA Leti, CEA List, Cetim, Énergies du Futur, ESP, Ingenierie@Lyon, Télécom & Société Numérique and IFPEN Transports Energie). It fosters 8,000 researchers and 65 technological platforms, and works jointly with the other major players in this sector, such as PFA (Plateforme automobile - Automobile platform) or competitive clusters.
Eight Carnot sectors have been launched, they are supported by the Investissements d’Avenir (Investments for the Future) programme: "Valorisation – Instituts Carnot" (Enhancement - Carnot Institutes) operated by the French national research agency. In addition to the motor industry (Carnauto), they cover various fields: Manufacturing, Medications, Extraction and first transformation of raw materials, Aeronautics, Fashion & Luxury, Sports & Energy. Cetim is leading the Manufacturing action (manufacturing processes) and is also involved in Aircar (aeronautics).
