Sanden reduces noise in car air conditioners

For Sanden Manufacturing Europe, driving comfort starts with a silent air conditioning system. To measure the level of vibrations of its air conditioning compressors, the company tests its products on test benches. However these measurements do not convey the compressor’s in-service vibratory behaviour as this also depends on the mounting brackets used by the customer. Sanden commissioned Cetim to carry out a study to determine the forces “blocked” in the compressor at each attachment point. The Centre used an experimental method for transposition of dynamic forces generated by an active component from a test bench to a vehicle. “Cetim helped us to tailor the protocol proposed in the standard to our products then to apply it by outlining the whole of the required experimental system (number and location of the accelerometers) for the measurements on our bench”, stated Olivier Aubry, acoustics and vibration specialist at Sanden. Once the work was completed, the methodology was integrated in the form of automated routines in the Sanden measurement acquisition programme.
