Neu Railways: modelling for quieter trains

NYC subway users must not be inconvenienced by noise. The Big Apple’s subway operates around the clock and as a result, maintenance of the railway lines must take place alongside commercial traffic and in silence! To this end, the network operator defined acoustic emission levels that must not be exceeded by its new vacuum trains tasked with cleaning the railway lines. The contract was awarded to Neu Railways, a French company, which called on Cetim to make sure that the design of its trains met with the specified requirements. The Centre’s experts paired finite element modelling with the SEA (Statistical Energy Analysis)method using VA-ONE software and issued recommendations which were applied by the SME to the three trains already delivered.
