Longer-lasting aircraft seats
Aircraft manufacturers devote a great deal of attention to the seats installed on their aircraft and want them to keep looking brand new as long as possible. As a means of meeting this strict requirement, Safran Seats commissioned Cetim to devise a reference framework to estimate the service life of the paint applied to the seats which undergo daily friction and impacts during use. Three appropriate standardised test procedures were developed and implemented by Cetim on painted samples representing the materials making up the seats (aluminium, composite and plastic). Qualitative (visual examinations) and quantitative (by weighing and 3D profilometry) results were obtained and served to classify the materials based on their behaviour to the various stresses. This is a key reference framework that can be used by Safran Seats when selecting the materials for its next models.
