Valva packing optimisation tool
In the field of valves and fittings, as in all sectors of activity today, it is essential to give priority to environmental concerns. For this reason, there is a noticeably increasing demand for sealing systems that not only have low levels of emissions for the end user but also have high energy efficiency. In the field of industrial valves and fittings, and more specifically in the field of valves themselves, the demand is for valve packing systems with high sealing performance as well as low levels of friction during stem movements. However, the load applied to valve packings, whether increasing or decreasing, affects the leaktightness and atmosphericemission levels. Industrial valve manufacturers therefore need a tool that gives them a view of the valve behaviour and performance, and also helps them to determine the ideal valve packing tightening level to enable recommendations to be made. This guide (9Q397), prepared by Cetim as part of a working group formed of French valve and sealing product manufacturers, proposes an analytical calculation model with associated characterisation test procedures, for the fasteners, packing gland, box, packing assembly, with an estimate of changes in load applied in the various phases, particularly tightening, pressurisation and heating.
