Estimation of coining forces on sheet metal: calculation validity and distribution

As die-cutting and stamping companies have expressed the need for evaluation of coining forces, an initial study was launched with the aim of researching and developing specific rules for this activity. This was used as the basis for a formula to calculate the flat coining force, taking account of the flat surface of the punch and the sheet-tool friction forces. The purpose of this study (S2039) is to provide this sector with relatively simple calculation methods and/or rules for estimating coining forces to make it possible to dimension, adjust and select presses, estimate the risks of damage to tools and plan for design and manufacturing. A formula for coining calculations has been adopted and integrated into an Excel spreadsheet, attached, and can also be distributed to those engaged in this occupational activity.
