Measuring CN and metals in effluents
The French ministerial order of 30 June 2006 defines the conditions for monitoring pollutant emissions for surface treatment companies and companies releasing effluents into the natural environment or a public wastewater system. The conditions indicate that monitoring must be carried out over a period of 24 hours using a sample, either internally or externally at an accredited laboratory. However, the disparity among the results obtained – regardless of the reason – has pushed industrial actors in the field to request that Cetim develop an inter-laboratory study to evaluate this fluctuation in results. This two part study (a laboratory questioning phase followed by an inter-laboratory test on two samples of industrial effluent) confirmed a significant dispersion of results, especially on zinc. It was therefore decided to repeat the experiment on buffer solutions as part of the chemical analysis, which did not reveal the same significant dispersions observed on the industrial effluents. This shows that, in this sector, the analysis methods used are complex and the results are difficult to exploit.
