Determining the control strategy of the stand-by mode of tunnel tempering furnaces

A major concern of industrial manufacturers is controlling their energy consumption, in particular the manufacturers of bearings for their heat treatment facilities. With the aim to provide provide elements of  best practices, this study consisted of analysing the dynamic behaviour of three gas-fired or electricity-powered continuous heat treatment furnaces (or tunnel furnaces), in order to optimising their stand-by holding temperatures. A simple analysis tool has been created, based on the analogy with an electric capacity discharge, to allow for a cost-effective control of the stand-by mode of the furnaces.
