Cleaning slaughterhouse cutting tools with CO2 snow
On 26 June 2018, the MALI commission approved the file, “Reducing water use in agri-food industries” so that relevant industrial actors can provide their customers with solutions to save water. Today, the members of this commission are confronted with the problems of washing food cutting tools, in particular when it comes to water consumption and the quality of cleaning achieved. It is therefore essential to identify the right solutions to address these issues, and also to offer companies in the sector with more cost-effective options while maintaining a clear advantage over foreign competitors. Application of a carbon dioxide snow technique was therefore proposed. The dry ice technique was deemed too labour-intensive to be integrated in an activity with continuous operation. However, the tests carried out on meat product cutting blades showed that the residues froze, and it was not possible to validate the effectiveness of the process.
