Fatigue behaviour of longitudinal attachments

Several precedent studies are performed on different weld improvements for longitudinal attachment welded joints in bending with a stress ratio R = 0.1. There did not show an important improvement except for HF hammer peening and support plate.

These results are in contradiction with the actual practices in the field, which used weld extremities with double weld or "Moustache". The explanation of the non-effect of the different improvement would be the low number of cycles. The aim of this study is to carry out the fatigue tests with a load lower than precedent studies in order to have high number of cycles and an effect of the different weld extremities. The test fatigue is performed with a load equal to 2/3 of the precedent load on extremities with double weld or "Moustache" with looping.
