A guide on Industry of the future technologies

The Industry of the Future Alliance is offering a new edition of the guide published in 2015 by the French Federation of Mechanical Industries (Fédération des industries mécaniques - FIM).

The Industry of the Future Alliance (AIF) unveiled its "Guide des technologies de l’industrie du futur - Enjeux et panorama des solutions" (Guide on industry of the future technologies: Challenges and solutions) during the Global Industrie trade show. This work is intended to help companies get a better grasp of the Industry of the Future concept. It describes the major challenges of the Industry of the Future and its scope extended to the value chains and transformations of business models. It also provides thematic sheets highlighting the levers for competitiveness.

A work spearheaded by the FIM

This work was initiated in 2014 by the French Federation of Mechanical Industries (FIM) and its unions with assistance from Cetim, Fieec and its unions, CEA, Tech In France and Syntec Numérique. In 2015, it led to the publication of the "Guide de l’Usine du Futur" (Industry of the Future Guide), a reference in the field. Three years later, the Industry of the Future Alliance and its 35 members, have published this new guide on Industry of the Future technologies as an update of the previous guide and have included new technological building blocks and levers for competitiveness. At present, the Industry of the Future includes aspects which, in light of contributions from digital technology, no longer only relate to production per se but also encompass the entire environment associated with the value chains and the transformations of business models.

Thematic sheets

The first section of this guide outlines the emergence of the approach, defines the basic premises of the Industry of the Future concept and describes its major challenges. The guide provides generic overviews for each challenge with references to more detailed sheets which can be used by the company as a guide for the relevant theme. These thematic sheets describe the various components or macro-building blocks of the Industry of the Future - whether they pertain to new technologies, methods of organisation or special items of equipment – and are always geared towards being implemented in companies (including small, medium and intermediate-sized companies). The whole of these macro building blocks constitute the reference system of the Industry of the Future.

The "Guide des technologies de l’industrie du futur- Enjeux et panorama des solutions" (Guide on the Industry of the Future technologies - Challenges and solutions) can be downloaded from the AIF internet portal.

Presentation

With the Information System, every actor of a project can be internally interconnected. This system supports the firm's activity and set up skills and knowledge, which thus can be easily accessed and used. On a technological level, a codesign of objects compels all suppliers to be implied in the creation of a usually virtual prototype before it is actually manufactured. Concerning management, it deals with defining or redefining firm strategy and improving its performances.
This technological orientation includes projects relating to knowledge and skill management, industrial performance and extended enterprise management.
