Keraglass tracks down noise to the source
Keraglass is committed to reducing occupational and environmental noise at its Bagneaux-sur-Loing plant. A noise abatement plan has led to tangible results.
The hot glass production process is a noisy one. In 2012, Keraglass, the glass ceramic manufacturer, commissioned Cetim to perform an audit in order to comply with occupational and environmental noise regulations. Noise measurements and a thorough study of the texts specific to the glass manufacturing sector and to the site served to clarify the regulatory context and identify the target goals in relation to noise.
A long-term action
At the end of the audit, a campaign was therefore initiated to measure occupational noise. Representative operators of the various jobs at the site were fitted with dosimeters. The noise within the plant and the environmental noise were also monitored. The measurements made it possible to model the noise inside and outside of the building. These models helped to devise noise abatement scenarios which led to several tangible actions. For example, the installation of variators controlling the fans served to lower noise by 5 dB while reducing the energy bill. This cooperation with Cetim is a genuine partnership that is scheduled to take place over several years. Cetim is also helping Keraglass to incorporate noise reduction into its call for tenders to purchase machines and the development of new processes.
