Multiphysical tests: a comprehensive offer to control complexity

Cetim has developed a new multiphysical testing offer to expedite the placing on the market of complex products with controlled and competitive costs. This approach combines testing and modelling.

“Multiphysical” tests have now become essential in light of the growing complexity of products and in particular the development of multifunctional products. During the examination of a product, a set of parameters are tested in various physical domains such as electromagnetism, mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, electronics and hydraulics. This is due to the growing complexification of products with physical units that interact together and which are sometimes very closely correlated. Therefore, these tests must also be able to correlate these dimensions in order to correspond as much as possible to the target environment. The aim is to design a reliable and high performance product at the right price and in a timely manner.

This type of test expedites the process by combining the stresses instead of them being carried out in parallel or one after the other, states Jean-Christophe Augé, operations director of Cetim, Senlis. Eventually, these multiphysical tests therefore promise to provide potential cost and time savings in the placing of the product on the market.

Another reason multiphysical tests have taken centre stage is simulation. In fact, one of the main motivations of the tests is the feedback provided to the calculation specialist. This allows the specialist to improve his practices and tools by comparing the actual data with the calculations. And now the calculation itself is becoming multiphysical.

A new offer

For these reasons, Cetim put together a new range of services in the field of multiphysical test engineering. “We offer comprehensive support which includes understanding of the product and life constraints, bench architecture and design, implementation of adapted measurement engineering as well as interpretation of the results”, explained Philippe Gouvaert, commercial manager at Cetim.

With this range designed inter alia for the transport, nuclear, oil and capital goods sectors, Cetim aims to extend its efforts internationally to two main sectors: off-road (agricultural equipment and construction machinery) and automobile.
