Energy consumption: Cetim is a partner of the Meman project

The Meman project aims to reduce the material and energy consumption of the entire value chain in the Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy sectors. This is the only project that has been accredited by the European Union, under the “plant of the future” programme and brings together fifteen European partners including Cetim.

The Meman (Integral Material and Energy flow MANagement in manufacturing metal mechanic sector) project aims to improve the competitiveness of European companies in the metal mechanic sector by optimising the resource efficiency of complete manufacturing value chains. Accordingly, it will address resource efficiency from an overall perspective that includes energy, raw materials and other supplies in an integrated optimisation approach.

Launched on 26 January 2015, the Meman consortium brings together fifteen partners from six countries, including industrial companies, SMEs and experts in eco-innovative industrial models who will be working on optimising resource efficiency in three areas: casting, machining and surface treatment and finishing. This work will be achieved through the full validation of new business models that will enable the cooperation of various companies over the entire value chain. Practical decision-making support tools will also be provided.

Three competitive clusters will lead the operations: Casting (coordinated by the Mondragon Corporation - Entrepreneurial Innovation Cluster, Basque Country, Spain); Machining (coordinated by Cetim in association with Mecanic Vallée - Entrepreneurial Cluster, Limousin and Midi-Pyrénées regions, France and Technofi) and; Surface treatment (Eiffo - Industrial and innovation Cluster, Germany and Austria).

The three-and-a-half-year project is the only initiative that has been accredited by the European Union, under the “Plant of the future” programme on the theme of “Efficiency of global energy and other resources in manufacturing companies”. The project has received funding of 6 million Euros from the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 programme.
