Leak tightness of connections at Veolia
Veolia is enhancing its competitive advantage by qualifying the tightness of the connections that it uses on the pressurised drinking water networks under its management. The tests performed at Cetim play a part in this qualification.
The drinking water distribution networks in operation in Metropolitan France are confronted with losses of over 20%. As a result, leak tests and leak elimination are top priorities. In this context, no pipes and connecting parts that may jeopardise the reliability of the systems must be used. In any case this is the firm belief of Veolia which designs, installs, operates and maintains a part of these networks. As proof of this, the company has decided to require that its suppliers perform a specific leak tightness qualification.
Consequently, the connections must withstand the water pressure cycling tests carried out at ambient temperature.
“The tests were initially performed by one of our subsidiaries. However, given that they are now used to validate the products under development by some of our suppliers, we had to find an external service provider, for confidentiality reasons. Therefore, we turned to Cetim. Their teams are very reactive and tailor their efforts to meet our needs”, explained the Veolia technical department. In addition to validating the parts, these tests are used to classify them according to their level of performance.
