Robots: Try before you buy!

Cetim and CTDEC offer flexible and mobile robot systems (CRFM) for loading and unloading parts in order to allow SMEs and SMIs to become familiar with a robot and test this equipment on their own parts, inside their own workshops. The distinguishing feature of this operation is that the robot systems can be rented for several weeks or several months.

Try before you buy! This could be the slogan for the new operation launched by Cetim and CTDEC which, each, offer SMEs and SMIs support in implementing a robot system. This full-fledged and operational approach involves installing a machine loading and unloading robot (for example machining) in the companies for a period ranging from 15 days to 3 months. The robot can be adjusted based on the processes in each company and the tasks that are entrusted to it. The goal of this operation is to allow the company to validate a robotisation project with easily reconfigurable solutions.

Cetim’s robot is a Universal Robot (UR10) that is able to safely move parts weighing up to 8 kg within a 1,200 mm radius. The universal robot is able to work on medium-size parts (diameter ranging up to 10 mm) with adapted protections and training of only 3 to 5 days. The real purpose of the project is to allow the teams in the workshops to become familiar with the CRFM. During this time, the personnel are able to gain enough proficiency in terms of programming, for instance, so that they no longer have to call on an integrator. The robot is configured by Cetim during an initial application upon its start-up, the robot can then be easily reprogrammed to handle other small series (from 150 parts).

This “low cost” (acquisition cost of an industrial version less than EUR 55,000), flexible and mobile robot system is available on loan to all SMIs which so request and has very surprising operational qualities. As a matter of fact, it is able to install and start production in less than 30 minutes and can supply the upstream storage in less than 3 minutes with a battery life of at least 60 minutes without interrupting production. The Massard industrial company (see our video) whose teams were fully involved in introducing the robot the introduction of the robot, was won over by CRFM’s low cost and high flexibility.

CTDEC’s flexible and mobile robot system

CTDEC’s robot system is reserved for a “top-of-the-line” approach that offers high movement accuracy. This system is developed based on the Staubli streamlined robot and is able to work on small-sized parts at high speeds. It is set up for demonstration for a few days by the CTDEC.

It can be quickly connected to a machine (less than 30 minutes). Most of its features integrated in its HMI, make it easy to programme so that it can be adjusted to the application case to be handled. However, an integrator is needed for it to be used on another application.

The first companies which have tried the new operation are particularly satisfied with it. Accordingly, at J.L. Pery&Fils, a bar-turning company in the Arve valley, the productivity gains resulting from the CTDEC system fall within the 40 % range.
