Christophe Delcher from Cetim: 2014 Engineer of the Year
L'Usine Nouvelle has revealed the names of the 2014 winners of the engineer of the year award and Christophe Delcher from Cetim is among the list in the "Innovation" category for a small locking washer that has already caused quite a stir.
Within mere months of being invented by Christophe Delcher, engineer at Cetim, the Nord-Lock NLX locking washer received the silver medal of innovation at Fastener Innovation 2013 in Stuttgart and then the first prize for innovation at the Nuklea 2013 fair, the White Tiger during the 2013 energy conference in Poland and so forth! Today, its inventor, Christophe Delcher has received the Engineer of the Year award from “L'Usine Nouvelle” in the Innovation category.
Christopher Delcher was very keen to share this award and recognition with his colleagues from Cetim and also with the engineers from the North-lock company with whom he developed this famous washer.
"This has been an extraordinary adventure, explained Christophe Delcher, as we were able to develop the product from scratch, including the design, dimensioning, prototype, study and development of the manufacturing process.”
At the heart of this innovation is a locking washer for screwed joints! Although it seemed quite simple in the beginning, its development took two years. “We had to develop the innovative manufacturing processes for the creation of cold cutting and cold heading tools with accuracies of a few microns”, added Christophe Delcher.
This locking washer, which was created within the framework of a co-development, is a win-win operation between Nord-Lock and Cetim. Nord-Lock now possesses an original and efficient product and Cetim played its technology transfer role.
