Researchers in the limelight: 37 doctoral theses in progress at Cetim
The 4 th edition of the doctoral students’ days brought together approximately forty people at Cetim (Senlis, France) on 24 and 25 September 2014. This was the opportunity to review the 37 doctoral theses in progress, including the six upstream research schemes financed by the Cetim Foundation.
During these two days, doctoral students, thesis supervisors, scientific partners and Cetim’s experts had the opportunity to identify issues, discuss on their approaches and share the solutions submitted by young researchers. The aim was to disclose doctoral students’ works and foster discussions between the various research and development stakeholders within Cetim.
And there are many doctoral students! More precisely, in September 2014, 37 students prepared a thesis with Cetim in order to conduct research, improve engineers’ knowledge and, eventually, provide new solutions to industrial companies. Approximately twenty of these research works are carried out in the scope of scientific partnerships with university laboratories, engineering schools, common laboratories or the “Institut de mécatronique” (mechatronics institute) created with the “UTC” (“Université de Technologie de Compiegne”). Six upstream research actions (doctoral theses and post-doctoral research) are financed by the Cetim Foundation under the aegis of the “Fondation de France”.
Reinforcing the scientific dimension
Nine laboratories, which are Cetim’s privileged partners, have been created with university teams of high repute: the Laboratory of two-phase flows and hydraulic technologies (Ledith), a joint laboratory between the von Karman Institute (VKI) and Cetim; the laboratory of pressure equipment technology application (Latep) composed by Armines and the “École des Mines de Douai” (France); the laboratory specialising in metrology application to mechanics (Lamecas) built with the “Ensam Lille” school; the research laboratory specialising in the implementation of thermoplastic composite materials (Compinnov Openlab), which brings together the “ENS Cachan” school (France), the “École centrale de Nantes” (France), the “CNRS” (French national scientific research centre) and Cetim; the laboratory specialising in mechanical gear transmissions (Transmeca) with the “CNRS” and the “Insa Lyon” (France); the material forming laboratory (LAMFM) with the “Ensam” school in Metz (France); the study, research and development laboratory specialising in dynamic sealing systems (Lerded) which brings together the “Pprime” Institute (University of Poitiers, France), the “CNRS” and Cetim; the joint laboratory for surface engineering and in-service behaviour of materials (Cetimat) with the Cirimat; the laboratory specialising in machining, powders, processes and interfaces in mechanical assemblies (Luppiam) with the “Énise”.
“These actions and partnerships are good examples of our will to reinforce the scientific dimension of the operations which we carry out for the mechanical industry, in direct relation with Cetim’s essential R&D axes: materials and processes, design-simulation-tests, mechatronics and sustainable development”, explains Mansour Afzali, scientific advisor at Cetim.
This intellectual community dedicated to mechanical businesses, has already filed many patents and produced a great deal of innovation.
