A whole day in the Vulcain Platform to present the future forging processes
Cetim and the “École nationale supérieure d’arts et métiers” (Ensam) of Metz, France, will present the new equipment of the Vulcain platform on 2 October 2014 during a one-day exhibition dedicated to future forging processes. The programme will include conferences and workshops.
The Vulcain Platform is a technological research tool made available to companies. It is the result of more than ten years of collaboration between Cetim and Arts et Métiers ParisTech through their shared Material Forming Laboratory (LAMFM).
This platform constitutes a connection between the “academic” and industrial worlds to enhance the competitiveness of the metal transformation sector. The platform is equipped with real industrial facilities such as a 6,000 kN (600 t) hydraulic press, a 500 kN (50 t) mechanical press running in single stroke, continuous or semi-automatic modes, a 6‑axis polyarticulated robot able to lift 180 kg to a height of 300 mm, two induction furnaces (25 and 50 kW), a contactless active stereo vision inspection system, a thermal camera, a high speed camera, etc.
This facility is located in the premises of the “École nationale supérieure d’arts et métiers” (Ensam) in Metz, France. Its creation was made possible by funding from the Carnot Cetim and Arts institutes, Iseetech, the Moselle département (county), the Lorraine region, the European regional development funds and the French Government. This facility has recently received a new piece of forging equipment which reflects our quickly changing industrial world: a new 31.5 kJ (400 t) direct-drive screw press.
This day of 2 October 2014 will be the perfect opportunity to present all the possibilities provided by this platform and extend the technological transfer activities performed by the LAMFM. It is the result of the active collaboration of two partners, Cetim and Ensam Metz, on subjects such as material forming and especially forging activities.
In addition to the plenary conferences, the work performed during this day will give higher value to the research actions performed on forming processes such as cold forging, hot forging, semi-solid forming, etc.
