Video Meetings 5.0 – Food sector: supporting the enhanced performance of agricultural machines
“Agriculture is one of the industries of the 21 st century and it is very badly in need of innovations”, this was made clear by Markus Westhues during “Rencontres 5.0”, the ceremony marking the closing of Cetim’s celebration of its 50 th anniversary held on 5 July 2016 at Bercy (France). The General Manager of Gima, a specialist in transmissions for agricultural machining, believes that farmers across the world are faced with a three-fold challenge. In order to feed 9 billion people by 2050, they have to find solutions to increase production with limited available land and produce differently to adapt to the changing demands around the world in addition to playing a role in the energy transition, inter alia with bio-fuel. And this starts with increasing the efficiency and performance of tractors.
To support the efforts of the agricultural machinery sector in this respect, Gima and Cetim have launched an original solution: Pima@tec, a dedicated test centre. Within the development cycle of agricultural machinery, “between design and industrial production, the product must be validated. This validation may be performed digitally or in real conditions in the fields, however it is fundamental to also obtain validation on test benches and this will be guaranteed by Pima@tec”, explained Markus Westhues. “Above all, this tool will help us conduct R&D and validate the designs via tests and production in France”, he added.
This video is one in a 4-part series. Each episode will feature two major players who will explain how industrial manufacturers are rising to the major challenges of the world of tomorrow: Energy, food, health and mobility. Watch the series on our website, in the “videos” section and on the Cetim France YouTube channel.
You can also watch Pima@tec on video on our YouTube channel.
