A visit at the heart of Cetim for its 50th anniversary

After Cetim Saint-Étienne, Cetim Senlis also opened its doors to the future on 3 June 2016. Here is the summary of a day with a full and diverse programme, with topics ranging from the artificial heart to collaborative robots, including agricultural machinery in the future.

The first beats of the artificial heart were designed thirty years ago in Senlis (France). Therefore, it is no surprise that the artificial heart was enhanced during the open doors day in Senlis, the second highlight of Cetim’s fiftieth anniversary, after the Saint-Étienne open doors day. On 3 June 2016, the 300 visitors thus discovered the first heart prototype which foreshadowed Carmat’s product which has been implanted in four patients, and attended a conference entitled “Quand la mécatronique donne son cœur” (“When the mechatronics industry gives its heart”). This conference was highly specialised, as were the other three entitled “Le robot futur de l'homme… et de l'entreprise” (“Robots: the future of people… and companies”), “Capter les informations dans le vent” (“Collecting information in the wind”) and “Nourrir 9 milliards d'humains en 2050” (“Feeding 9 billion humans in 2050”). The main themes of these four conferences - mechatronics, robotics, conditional maintenance, modelling and simulation - are also illustrated by two tours of the Senlis site workshops: “Relevons les défis du futur” (“Meeting future challenges”) and “La mécanique dans tous les sens” (“Mechanical Engineering in all its aspects”). When asked what he liked best about the event, one manager from one of Cetim’s partner laboratories answered “The link between conferences and visits, between theory and physical tests, was very interesting”.

The presence of a large delegation from AGCO is worth mentioning. This company’s Beauvais site was awarded the Trophée d'Usine (Plant Trophy) for 2016, by the L'Usine Nouvelle magazine. As regards these open doors event, a member of the design office said “it is a very good and interactive presentation. It provides us with an overall vision of Cetim’s activities and prospects”. For his part, a consultant who works for the Technical Centre noted a change when he walked into the workshops: “One has the impression that laboratories are really customer-focused”.

Towards the future… of agricultural machinery

Political representatives also accepted Cetim Senlis’ invitation. Didier Martin, Prefect of the “Oise” county, Caroline Cayeux, Mayor of Beauvais, Manoëlle Martin, Vice-President of the “Hauts de France” region and Eric Woerth, the member of Parliament representing the fourth administrative territory in the “Oise” county, concluded the day by highlighting the essential role played by the industrial technical centres, especially Cetim, both at a local and national scale.

The day ended with a round table discussion on the Industry of the Future, with a specific focus on agricultural machinery including the testimonials of two industrial manufacturers: Laurent Bataille, Chief Executive Officer of Poclain Hydraulics and ambassador of the “Alliance Industrie du Futur” (Industry of the Future Alliance), and Thierry Lhotte, Vice-President in charge of marketing at Massey Ferguson.

On 4 June, after the industrial manufacturers, the residents of Senlis and the family members of Cetim’s employees were invited, in their turn, to visit the facilities.
