The Hassan II mosque in Casablanca combats corrosion with Cetim
The Hassan II mosque in Casablanca (Morocco) is one of the largest mosques in the world, however this does not make it any less susceptible to the wears of time! The monumental mosque is partially built over the sea and is consequently faced with corrosion phenomena affecting certain metallic parts supporting the travertine covering the façade. In an effort to address this damage, the Hassan II Mosque management and administration foundation tasked Cetim with proposing an optimum test programme comprising just the requisite and appropriate examinations for understanding the corrosion phenomena detected. Micrographic and microscopic examinations of the specimens sampled from the structure, in addition to chemical analyses of the deteriorated accessories, enabled Cetim’s experts to recommend curative and preventive measures so that the monument could preserve its glory.
