Siderus revolutionises the thickness measurement of metallic coating.
Siderus marks the first in the world of non-destructive testing (NDT). The device was unveiled by Cetim (stand 46b) during the SVTM (vacuum technologies and materials treatment) trade show held in Bordeaux from 13 to 14 June 2018. It measures the thickness of metal coatings irrespective of the materials’ electromagnetic properties!
Jointly developed between Cetim and Lecoeur Electronique, this ground-breaking solution uses the latest technological advances in ultrasonic non-destructive testing to measure the thicknesses of coatings spanning 60 to 300 micrometres. The specific advantage of this method is its immunity to the changes in the materials’ electromagnetic properties and as such its is especially suited to the case of High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying of tungsten carbide on titanium or stainless steel parts.
Before being introduced on the market, the equipment was tested by Safran Landing Systems in Bidos (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on a “shock absorber”, one of the key landing gear components.
