Rules and standards for enhanced competitiveness: a memo by the “Fabrique de l’industrie”
“Regulations and standardisation: drivers of industrial competitiveness”: this was the title of the memo published by the “Fabrique de l’industrie” and made available on its website (www.la-fabrique.fr). This memo starts off by giving a brief explanation of the confusion that is frequently made between rules and standards. It then outlines the discussions and actions in progress in the regulatory field in particular the recent “radical simplification” policy. Finally, it explores the market opportunities provided by the standards. As a matter of fact, standards allow economic stakeholders to enhance and promote the quality or compatibility of their products, services and methods, at a time when one potential strategy identified for renewing the French industry is an upmarket shift.
The article by Philippe Contet, General Manager of the French Standardisation Office for the mechanical engineering industries UNM, entitled “Standard: a tool to disseminate innovation” can also be consulted on the same site.
The Fabrique de l’industrie is a think tank that was created in October 2011 by the French Union of Metallurgical Industries and Professions UIMM, the Cercle de l’industrie and the Group of Industrial Federations GFI to foster collective brainstorming on industrial challenges.
