MGF Grimaldi takes its first steps towards additive manufacturing..
MGF Grimaldi specialises in precision mechanical engineering and mainly works for the medical, aeronautical and aerospace sectors, three markets where metal additive manufacturing has many benefits. It therefore comes as no surprise that this SME employing 67 people is contributing to a collective awareness campaign targeting this technology, proposed by Ardi (Regional development and innovation agency) Rhône-Alpes in the context of the SME plan, implemented by Cetim. The firm was therefore able to assess the relevance of switching to 3D printing for a range of its own parts, cost production on the site of potential suppliers and, clearly, become familiar with post-treatment equipment, software and machines in this field. Better yet, Cetim has also proposed the production of a few specimens of one of its parts to MGF Grimaldi, based on a CAD file. Should the firm decide to switch to additive manufacturing, all it needs to do is choose between sub-contracting or obtaining the necessary equipment.
