Europe gives recognition to women innovators
Women are increasingly present in the research world. However, far too few women create innovative companies. In an effort to address this situation, the European Commission has launched the third edition of the EU Prize for Women Innovators.
The aim is to make the general public aware of the need to drive innovations and stimulate new career interest. The prize will be awarded to three women who have brought their outstanding innovative ideas to the market. The Union has dedicated significant resources to this initiative given that the first place winner will be awarded EUR 100,000, the second place winner, 50,000 and the third place winner, 30,000.
The contest is opened to women who:
- Reside in a EU member state or a country associated to Horizon 2020
- Founded or cofounded an active company before 1 January 2013 and whose turnover exceeded EUR 100,000 in 2013 or 2014
- Have at some point in their careers benefited from the EU’s research framework programmes, the Euratom framework programme, the competitiveness and innovation framework programme (CIP) or actions relating to research and innovation under the European structural and investment funds.
Candidates can submit their entries until 20 October 2015 (12 P.M.) to: www.ec.europa.eu/women-innovators
